Unfortunately, Deal Maker Media did NOT invite me to their silly conference on “partnering with gorillas” so instead, we’ll be talking about the much cooler event, Stirr Founderhacks! Here’s the writeup Alex Ho did for my other blog, Startupism:
Stirr had its monthly mixer event once again at a new place this month a new format called Founder Hacks. Four founders presented and shared some tips or “hacks” that each went through in the process of getting funding or getting their company live. The presenters included David Marks, CEO of Loomia, David Weekly, CEO of PBWiki, Munjah Shah, CEO of Riya/Like.com, and Ted Rheingold, the CEO of Dogster. Just like any other networking, this event is a great opportunity for people to network with other entrepreneurs and see what everyone else is doing. There were also demo booths by Getsatisfaction.com, Gigya.com, and Talktiva. Sun Microsystems, sponsored the event along with AboveNet and promoted their new Sun Startup Essentials Program, which provides up and coming startups with open sourec software and discounted hardware. A Sun Fire server was also given away at the event to one lucky Startup.
Here’s MY evaluation of the event: (Evaluation format from my other blog, Startupism.com: 1) Quality of presentations: 8.5/10 – Amazing advice from real founders who went through real experiences. Priceless simple tips, such as: “Roll out your idea ASAP and build your product with help of your users.” As obvious as it sounds, few companies will follow that. 2) Venue: 9.5/10 – Absolutely beautiful location. Good conference room, nice patio, and perfect vibe. Biggest downside was parking. 3) Food/Drink: 5/10 – Unlike most other events I go to, the drinks were not free. The food was pretty good, but I wish there was more! 4) Quality/Quantity of Attendees: 9/10 – This event was absolutely top notch with the quality of attendees. Compares to Geeksessions. Overall, this was the 2nd best event next to Geeksessions. Keep up the good work, Sanford, Dan, Sean and Mel! And much thanks to my new Startupism.com party correspondent, Alex Ho.
