Ummm.....an "A" in your transcript at "insert name of generic community college" vs a "C" at MIT. Which do you choose?

Transcripts aren't everything.

Wow these people are passionately against you on this one.

I can't figure out why.

Maybe they are right about the valley... but seriously, do you people really believe that not being educated isn't a handicap? If so the world has some bad news for you in the future...

Jessica you're absolutely wrong. A college degree and transcipt does not prove whether one has enough momentum and qualification. You actually seem like you have zero experience in the work force and think that because you are on your way to finishing college that you are going to have a wonderful future. I know you're type. You think you're going to have everything under your belt with your wonderful degree and perhaps in a couple of years with your masters degree. I'll keep up with your blog in hopes of watching you fail :)

You clearly don't know what you are talking about. In the valley, NO ONE and I mean NO ONE rejects anyone with talent because they didn't finish college. Some of the smartest people at google don't have degrees because they were asked to join the company in their Jr. or Senior year.

In the valley.. "if one company doesn't hire you, the competitor will". Rejecting talent because they got a C in college algebra and dropped out to take a job at Intel or some high end place is an absolute ridiculous notion.

You need to get your head out of your ass Jessica, college isn't everything.. at all.. in the technology industry, in my long career, it is mostly considered a non issue. As long as you have the talent and track record to back it up. Obviously a college drop out with no background to speak of will not be considered.

What's funny is, a college dropout with academic papers, a track record, numerous projects under their belt, an expert in their field and high in talent is a better option than a PHD Computer Scientist from Carnegie Melon University with ZERO track record and background save for only what they did in college. College is only part of the picture, if you are one of those people who coasts through college and joins clubs and activities thinking they will help you in the end, you're delusional. When I pick people to join my team, I skip past the education and go straight to their experience and prior projects/work experience. Then on to publications (if any) and then on to education. More times than not I've found High School seniors who have become Linux kernel hackers of amazing talent more qualified than a Masters in Computer Science from Brown University.

Before you comment on the technology industry how about you actually work in it. Maybe make something *OTHER* than a website or blog, and actual product, write actual code maybe? Learn electrical engineering? You're a lost cause.
